“Salt Bae’s” ‘Ultra-Premium’ London Restaurant Peacefully Occupied by Supporters of Animal Rebellion
On the 3/12/22, at around 18:00, 8 supporters of Animal Rebellion entered internet celebrity Salt Bae’s London Steakhouse, ‘Nusr-Et’.
The smartly-dressed protesters occupied tables reserved for customers of the venue serving meats coated in edible 24 karat gold, including steaks costing £1,450 each.
Animal Rebellion are calling for a plant-based food system and mass-rewilding.
The group claims these actions will continue until the government takes meaningful action on the climate and ecological emergencies.
Influencer Salt Bae’s ‘ultra-premium’ steakhouse in Knightsbridge has been disrupted by 8 supporters of Animal Rebellion. The restaurant, which opened just over a year ago, includes menu items such as a ‘Golden Burger’ for £100, ‘Golden Kafes’ for £500, and a ‘Golden Giant Tomahawk steak’ sold at a staggering £1,450. Even the soft drinks, like Coca Cola, reportedly cost upwards of £9 each .
The meat-heavy menu includes many of the foods with the largest carbon, and land-use, footprints .
Supporters of Animal Rebellion can be seen occupying tables reserved for customers and holding ‘mock menus’ outlining the group’s core demands stylised as a starter, main, and desert.

Ben Thomas, 20, a student, said:
“Restaurants like these are symbolic of a broken system. Whilst 2 million people are relying on food banks in the UK right now, influencer chefs are selling gold-plated steaks for more than one thousand pounds. Steaks, and other red meats, that we know carry the highest environmental impacts.
Instead of allowing influencers to cash in on these gimmicks at the expense of people and the planet, we need to support farmers and fishing communities in a transition to a food system that works for us all.
A plant-based food system would need 75% less farmland to grow as much food as we do now, enabling us to feed millions of additional people at a fraction of the cost. This would also free up a significant amount of land which could be rewilded to draw-down carbon from the atmosphere and reverse biodiversity loss.”
Two weeks ago, Animal Rebellion targeted Gordon Ramsay’s 3 Michelin Star Restaurant in Chelsea and The Catch At The Old Fish Market, Weymouth with similar protests . They claim the disruption to these high-end venues will end when the Government takes meaningful action on the climate and ecological emergencies.

These actions come as part of Animal Rebellion’s demands for a plant-based future, which were announced on Monday 23rd of May . The animal and climate justice group is urging wholesale governmental and societal support for farmers and fishing communities to transition to a plant-based food system and programme of rewilding that will secure a future for generations to come.
Animal Rebellion is a mass movement using nonviolent civil disobedience to call for a just, sustainable plant-based food system.
